I inherited an old gas lantern from my grandfather. It was either used at a train station or at a train switch. My goal was to bring it back to life by installing a LED light bulb inside. We ended up putting one in which imitates fire.

I created a 3D printable mounting bracket to attach it to the base of the lantern and added a dimmer since the light is intended to be only for decoration and not for providing light to the room. I used a light fixture which is originally used for painting jobs that I had laying around. It fits in the middle of the mounting bracket and I can use the screw from the fixture to keep it in place. The lantern case already had holes in the bottom which I used for the screws and cables.

I printed the bracket on my 3D printer, installed the light fixture, and connected the dimmer. In the end I grounded the metal casing. The lantern turned out great and is a highlight in our living room.
